Denico Food Ingredients featured in Contentway: Future Food Production 2026 25th anniversary special

After 25 years in the food industry, Denico Food Ingredients has grown from a traditional supplier into an international collaboration partner, built on long-term relationships, tailored solutions, and a business now firmly anchored in export markets outside the EU.

When a company celebrates its 25th anniversary in an industry defined by constant change, it is rarely down to chance. For Denico, the journey has been one of continuous adaptation — without losing sight of its foundation.

Our development over the past 25 years has largely been driven by long-term relationships and an ability to adapt to our customers’ needs — that is what has built the foundation for the position we hold today.

From supplier to value-creating partner

Denico Food Ingredients previously delivered primarily ingredients, but today the company works much closer to its customers’ business and product development. “We don’t see ourselves as a classic supplier, but as a collaboration partner that actively contributes to our customers’ development work — often with solutions that need to work both technically and commercially,” says Dennis Petersen.

In practice, this means Denico is typically involved in concrete challenges faced by the customer — from optimising product quality and adapting to regulatory requirements, to developing new products for specific markets. The company increasingly functions as a link between raw materials, technological understanding, and finished products — a role that has become more central as the industry has grown more complex.

This strategic development is reflected in the company’s growth and geographic reach. Over the years, exports have come to make up the majority of the business. “Today, around 80 percent of our revenue comes from outside the EU — clear proof that our business is scalable and competitive in international markets,” says the Denico owner.

This approach has helped build a business that today stands on several geographic legs, and is therefore less dependent on developments in any single market. At the same time, the company remains strong in its original core business within the meat and poultry industry — with clear growth in new segments such as condiments, including mayonnaise, ketchup, and dressings, as well as dairy and ice cream.

International markets require more than good products. It’s also about understanding local needs, cultures, and business conditions. It’s a discipline we have worked deliberately on for many years.

An industry in transformation: from complexity to solutions

The food industry is currently shaped by a number of parallel developments that are significantly increasing complexity — something the Silkeborg-based company also experiences, as customers increasingly demand new solutions. “We see a clear shift towards more complex, customer-tailored solutions, where requirements from legislation, consumers, and industry all need to be balanced within a single product,” explains Dennis Petersen.

The driving factors, he says, include increased regulatory requirements, a greater focus on documentation and transparency, and changing consumer preferences. “Going forward, our most important task will be to translate complexity into practical solutions — and to ensure our customers can quickly adapt to new requirements and opportunities in the market.”

The ambition, then, is not only to follow developments, but to be an active part of them — as a sparring partner in product development, optimisation, and market access. While the business today is largely international, its starting point remains rooted in Danish values such as trustworthiness, quality, and long-term thinking.

After 25 years, the anniversary marks not just a milestone, but also a starting point for the next phase.
